Technical Solutions:
"Too many wireless signals in the apartment. (2) of the most notable signals were from 2WIRE devices used by ATT to serve residential DSL customers. The signal strength from these (2) 2WIRE devices were much stronger than the AP in question. My ATT cell phone calls to Brett got dropped about 6 times. Greg, the McKinley rep., has Verizon and also experienced a dropped cell call in the apartment. This technician was able to successfully connect to the AP from the parking lot out side the apartment. Connections inside the apartment were 'flaky' and dropped several times The tenant's PC is running 'Ares' (file sharing utility) known to be potentially harmful - e.g. download unknown files from others PC over the internet. http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/ The tenant's PC was not running any anti-virus software and several Microsoft Windows Updates were available to be installed. This PC is vulnerable to known internet exploits."
"More sophisticated RF analysis tools are needed to diagnose this issue. In this technician's opinion, there are several other variables to this issue. 1. Physical location - this apartment is similar to a cement bowl 3-4 feet below grade. RF signals will do unexpected things in this environment e.g. reflect/bounce or simply ground out. 2. There are a lot of other RF signals. (2) of which are notably stronger. 3. Potentially malicious software running on tenant's PC using more bandwidth than is detected by Windows XP or the user. This technician is limited to a Toshiba Satellite laptop with built-in wireless NIC and running NetStumbler v0.4.0. More sophisticated RF analysis tools are needed to diagnose this issue."
